Top ten places to go with kids

I may be a bit premature, but the summer is only a stones throw away. I'm already thinking of affordable things to do and places to go with the kids. So I have put together a list of my top ten places to go with the kids for your pleasure. It can often be very difficult to find something to do with the kids which is affordable and fun.

With this list Top ten places to go with kids I hope it can inspire you to get out and try so different things. I can not wait to get out in the sunshine this year, the winter has dragged on for long enough now. So lets begin dreaming about months to come and start my Top ten places to go with kids.

Top ten places to go with kids

1 Visit small towns with quirky features you will be amazed that a stroll down the high street can provide hours of entertainment with street performers, gift shops and market stalls. Here is somewhere we love to visit Looe polperro

2 Visit a small river but firstly, make sure that the river has suitable and safe access. Rivers can be a stimulating and educational place, but without you or your children even knowing it. One of the first things you notice about rivers are how the water deepens on the outside of the meanders. See without you even realising, simply approaching the river will be an education in its self for your children. Here is one of my favorite rivers to visit.

3 Visit small farm attractions / adventure parks these places can be expensive but not if you follow my Top ten tips for adventure parks

4 Take a picnic to a place of beauty, these places will often have large spaces for little ones to run around in and play hide and seek. Peekaboo ! We often take a picnic to Saltram.

5 Take a train ride somewhere we intend to do this, we have always said we would but didn't really know where or what to do. We have heard that traveling on branch lines is generally cheap, so we looked in to a few in our area and have chosen a place to go. I will be sure to post this when we have been.

6 Take the kids to the park but not just the one at the end of the street choose the big one ! Most citys/towns will have a park which is bigger than the rest, a kind of central park. The kids can take snacks and juices and you can make a day of it.

7 Visit the beach rain or shine. Don the wellies, grab a bucket, grab a net and go rock pooling. So much fun and so easy to do, just please watch the tide it will surprise you.

8 Visit an information center, most places of interest will have a visitors center with lost of hands on thing for little ones to get stuck in to. Whats more, there is a place of interest to visit right on the centers door step.

9 Visit a woodland, take a picnic, take crayon rubbing of bark, collect sticks and let the kids imaginations run wild for free! Watch out for the bears , I hear they are having a picnic. Seriously though if you live somewhere where dangerous animal live in the woods then be careful.

10 Visit a ruin, it may be ruined but it can be a place of massive historic interest thus being a great place for children to learn but whilst having fun playing kings and queens .

I hope my list of top ten places to visit with kids has been an interesting read and I hope that it has given you some ideas of your own. I'd love to hear about your days out please link your days out below in the comments.

  4. These are definitely some interesting ideas. I take them for granted because I do almost all of these with my kids on a regular bases because we live so close to a river, I'm from a small town 18 miles from where we live (which we have a house for sale there), and the kids go to the beach every summer with their granddad (I'm allergic to the ocean literally.), and we go to many different parks on a regular bases as well all throughout our state.

Our kids love all of these events and treasure every one of them. I'm confident your kids will too. I'd also look into doing a train ride over Christmas. I can't remember the link for the Santa train ride event that is held in SC every year, but that would be something worth looking into. ;)
